Dr. Arsenio Paez (DPhil)

Sleep Neuroscientist & Clinical Scientist

Dr. Arsenio Paez is a physical therapist, neuroscientist, clinical epidemiologist, and rehabilitation researcher whose career has been dedicated to bridging the gap between research evidence and clinical practice. With nearly three decades of clinical experience, he has worked across a broad range of neurological and musculoskeletal rehabilitation settings, combining hands-on patient care with research and education to help clinicians deliver better, more evidence-informed care.
For more than 20 years, Dr. Paez has taught evidence-based practice, rehabilitation, clinical research methods, and clinical decision-making to health professionals and graduate students internationally. He holds a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Northeastern University, a DPhil (PhD) and MSc in Evidence-Based Health Care from the University of Oxford, and a PhD in Neuroscience from Concordia University in Montreal, where he was awarded the Governor General’s Gold Medal for his research in Alzheimer’s disease. He currently serves as Executive Director of the Canadian Sleep Society, Senior Lecturer at Northeastern University, and Board Member and Research Lead of the IDEAL Collaboration at the University of Oxford, an international initiative dedicated to improving innovation, evaluation, and the quality of evidence for surgery, rehabilitation, and other complex healthcare interventions.
Dr. Paez’s research combines clinical epidemiology, neuroscience, and sleep physiology to better understand how evidence can improve rehabilitation, brain health, cognition, and patient outcomes. Across his research, teaching, and clinical work, his focus remains the same: helping clinicians critically evaluate evidence, integrate it with clinical expertise and patient values, and make confident, patient-centereddecisions. Through Evidence Partners, he is committed to making evidence-based practice practical, accessible, and directly relevant to everyday clinical care.
